Jock McBain

Jock is best known as the driving force behind the Border Reivers team and their sports car exploits. Jock was a Chirnside agricultural engineer and garage owner who had some success in the 30s but, sadly, the war and RAF service intervened in his driving career. Post hostilities, he saw the rise of 500cc racing in England and determined to put Scotland forward. Jock persuaded friends and business associates to purchase Cooper and later JP cars and commit to active competition including Keith Hall  and local farmer, David Swan. Jock's team would assist with preparation and support.

Jock only competed occasionally, his 500 performances included:

Crimond 17th June 1951, 2nd

Rest and be Thankful 7th July 1951, 9th

 

Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy 26th April 1952, 1st in heat, 1st in final

Crimond 24th May 1952, 2nd

 

Charterhall 11th July 1954, 2nd

Jock's most notable achievement was the Border Reivers support for a young border farmer named Jim Clark.
