Last year’s review ended with the line; “Let’s hope for a more settled timetable for next year.” As things turned out this proved to be woefully optimistic and we ended up with plan B, C and eventually D, all down to “circumstances beyond our control” In the end, though, we got a reasonably balanced calendar so the main victim was the Competition Secretary’s mental health. Given the chaos all around us, the turnout was very good indeed. Ten years ago, 10 entries for a race would have been considered good but we have progressed year by year and in 2011 breached the magic number of 20 entries as an average across all races. Better still, this figure only included cars with VIF documents and excludes the Goodwood Revival as an invitation event. Given the challenging financial times and malaise affecting club racing, this is a quite remarkable performance of which we can all be proud.
