In the race, victory for James became assured when John's engine tightened and he was clipped by David Whetton (750 Trophy), who spun into the barriers at the entrance to Gerards, resulting in red flags and a shortened race. Don Rawson and Roger Windley (both 750 Trophy) kept James honest to the flag and Bob Culver was chased home by Kerry Horan to finish 2nd and 3rd in class. Down the field, various battles raged, the similar overall lap times of the 750 Trophy cars ensuring that everyone had a good fight with constant passing and re passing. James' win ensured the Championship with a full ten points. John Turner came into the race needing a win and a poor finish from James but his chances disappeared with his blown engine. Bob's fine third in class confirmed his third place overall in the Championship. | ||||||
