Monthlery Cooper Records 1053 Report

Cooper Records, Montlhéry 5th-8th October 1953

After setting a series of records with the Mk V streamlined car (T17) in October 1951, the team returned in early October 1953, with the streamlined Mk VIII car (T28), using a Francis Beart Norton engine. The car was driven by John Cooper himself to 14 new records at Montlhéry. His records would not stand for very long; by the middle of the month, Piero Taruffi had taken them in his twin fuselage Tarf and by the end October they had fallen again to John Brise in the streamlined Arnott

The car was later sold to Pete Lovely who installed a Porsche engine and raced it as a sports car on the West Coast, US. Photo courtesy Rick Michaud.
