Paul appears to have started racing in 1956 with a Cooper Mk V but seems to have quickly moved up to a later Cooper, probably a Mk IX for a full season in 1957 which brought several wins and the SCCA Championship. In 1959, he took second to Jim Haynes in the SCCA Championship. He continued racing into the sixties in a Fiat Abarth and an Alfa Romeo.
