Rockingham
Sprint, Sunday 21 March 2016
A cool but dry day greeted Dennis Williams,
Robin Baxter and Mike Wood at the first event of the year, a sprint at
Rockingham Speedway. This was a new venue to the three of us and so a convoy
lap, taken in a road car, was very useful, as at over one and a half miles long
there was not time to walk the course.
The first practice runs saw us held for a
very long time before the start line but eventually we all got away. We each
had a few little issues but little was needed by way of fettling. Robin was
easily quickest.
The organisers gave us a clearer run
through on second practice and helped us even more for the timed runs in the
afternoon. Although niggles still persisted, times were to fall significantly
and we each enjoyed the day.
Thanks must go to BARC Midland Centre for a
good event and adjusting the assembly arrangements to fit in with our quirks.
A fuller report will appear in The 500.
