Designed in 1949 by Mr Jean BERNARDET one of the promoters of the 500 movement in France and built in Paris by Mrs Jean DABERE and Henri MORISI , this car is the first 500 designed and built in France. Three cars were built, and this one is the only one left. This car appeared for the first time at Monthléry April 30th, 1950. During 1951, the car was raced in Germany at Berlin and at the Nurburgring by Mr Georges AGHION an Egyptian pilot living in Paris. The car with its original body still shows traces of the Egyptian national racing colour which was purple. In 1952, Mr Bernardet won and established a new record at the Lapize hill climb at Monthléry .

This car is the very first monocoque racing car built in France, before the so called monocoque concept was developed. It was a very innovative concept, with casted light alloy rocker arms and wishbones, independent suspension with Neimann rings (bungees) , inboard suspended rear brakes and fitted with a differential. The engine is a JAP 4 B, tuned by late Jerry Goodwin , with no race on it. The gearbox is a doll’s head rebuilt by David Coats and with no race on it either. The Dunlop racing tyres are new.

The car was once the property of Mr Henri JULIEN, president of the French 500 racing club and also president and general manager of the French AGS Formula 1 team .

This car’s last race was at Zandvoort in 2014 , it is an authentic piece of French motor racing history and Goodwood eligible. The car comes with a large number of documents and period photos. A made to measure trailer is available.

Price: £30,000 firm

For more information : Patrick MORIN. pmahmorin44@ gmail.com

Patrick also requires a new location to store the JB whilst it is being advertised for sale, so if you feel you can help, please contact Patrick.

History: Built in 1962 by Buckler Cars to a design by suspension guru Leslie Ballamy for A.F. Rivers Fletcher. Shown at the 1965 Racing Car Show at Olympia in London. Competed at Prescott and Wiscombe hill climbs in 1964 and 1965. Almost completely destroyed in a garage fire in 1965. The remains were given to a young apprentice Dennis Bissell, who was helping Rivers with his next project, a single seater XK120 Jaguar. Nearly 50 years later, Dennis had completed the “re-build” and the car was raced at Prescott by Jeremy Rivers-Fletcher. In 2023, Jeremy acquired the car and carried out serious development work on it, winning the BOC Fassi championship for racing cars. He came second in 2024 but did too few events in 2025 to be placed

The car: Originally intended for an assault on the hillclimb championship, the car was designed as a successor to the “Kart” like cars that were taking the hillclimb fraternity by surprise. Low weight, tiny dimensions, and motor bike lightweight engines. Originally fitted with an experimental Villiers 250cc engine but quickly replace with a Triumph Tiger 110 650cc twin.

Rivers did not like the handling of the car, and before it could be developed it was burnt out in a barn fire at the bottom of Rivers’ garden. Dennis Bissell beautifully rebuilt the car using the original chassis and suspension parts to the exact format before the fire. As soon as Jeremy acquired the car, he began the development that should have been done in 1965. Steering, suspension and driving position were vastly improved, followed by many improvements to the general build, to the extent that it has become a reliable and fun car to compete in historic hillclimb classes. The car has been fully prepared for the 2026 season, with in date harness, MSA registration book and comes with its own covered trailer and 9 files of history, provenance and manuals for the engine and gearbox. The spares package includes racing camshafts (not yet fitted), spare wheel and tyre, drive shaft joints and many other items.

This car is not a “continuation car” but the original BB. It runs on “pump”fuel. A unique part of motor racing history, ready to race and enjoy.

For more information contact

Jeremy on 07977 674518.

The car can be viewed at Jeremy’s home near Stratford-on Avon.

The vehicle is a unique specimen from Zurich (Switzerland). John Cooper had an accident with it in 1952 at the AVUS in Berlin. There are pictures for this.
Project undertaken: The JKZ was used in races until 1995. Since the engine ran very unreliably, even though it was always prepared by a world-famous JAP tuner in Germany, I decided to return the engine to its original condition (DOHC instead of bumpers). The exhaust valve always hit the cylinder head, even though I didn’t over-rev the engine. It turned out that the distance between the piston and the cylinder head was too small). But I thought the bumpers were the problem.
In this context, I also wanted to have the aluminum body overhauled. It developed cracks in the weld seams.
Since then, some parts for the engine have been procured (pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, reinforced crankcase, Corsa cylinder head and cylinder, etc.) and manufactured (2 timing cases and crankshaft bearings, etc.). The body was stripped of paint.
Since then, my specialists have not done anything about my project.
The vehicle is complete, the chassis is rolling, the body is in individual parts. Technology: Front axle – FIAT Topolino, rear axle FIAT Topolino + RENAULT 4CV
Now I’m 72 years old and I’m giving up on the project in frustration.
I hope that someone can be found to bring the project to a positive end.
