Zephyr

Zephyr

Zephyr started life as Roy Clarkson's Iota special which he appears to have used only at Bo'ness in September 1947, where he won the 750cc class and a quite remarkable third overall, and June '48 where he was second to the Cooper Mk II of Stan Coldham. Roy was one of the first to use a JAP motor, mated to a Norton TT gearbox. Morris wheels and brakes were used. Roy appear to have taken the regulation stating that bodywork was optional to heart and it never had more than a very basic front fairing.

Roy's Iota sans bodywork

It appears to have then passed to the Breese brothers, Jackie being a regular a regular through 1949 at Prescott and in the Grand Prix support race. Gregor Grant described the suspension as "rather eccentric......anyone trying to work out the forces involved would immediately be defeated by his slide rule running red hot".
