Mac Tilton seems to have made his debut at Montgomery in 1959, driving an Iota of all things. For 1960, he graduated to a more competitive Cooper Norton and managed third overall in the SCCA National Championship, behind George Alderman and John Gadwa. '61 proved a frustrating season due to unreliability so ninth is all he could manage. Through the later 1960s, Mac worked as race engineer and crew chief for Peter Brock and his Datsun team before founding Tilton Engineering in 1972, best know for transmissions.
