Theo Fitzau |
Theodore Fitzau was born 1923 in Köthen, which later became part of East Germany and was a soap maker by trade. He seems to have entered the sport in 1949 taking over the ARO kleinstrennwagen from Arthur Rosenhammer which he drove in both East and West, his best result being a 2nd at Leipzig in July 1950. He takes a year out in '51 driving Rosenhammer's Veritas and returns for '52 in another eigenbau, the WGW but this only brings Theo DNFs and a sixth at Bernburg. Near the end of '52. Theo commits "Republikfluch"t by failing to return from a trip to Rastatt in West Germany. For 1953, he finally lands a Cooper and with a 2nd at Freiburg in August, he takes fifth in the West German championship. In the same year, he races in his only Grand Prix, diving the AFM-BMW (Alex von Falkenhausen Motorenbau) of Helmut Niedermayr in the German Grand Prix from which he retired. Theo Fitzau died in March 1982 in Groß-Gerau, West Germany. Some results for Theo:
